Between BB and [yamaha] keyboards , what kind of possibilities ?

Reading the discussion about this subject in our forum and having time today for some experience : here are my results.
Please give your comments , will you ?

I am using BB version 11. 0b as sequence program and playing on the yamaha 9000pro as keyboard .
There are 2 objects for converting between BB and the keyboard : SONGS and STYLES.
SONGS:
BB has two main different extensions for their songs and styles : MG and SG.
[MG is with melody and SG is without]
select a MG or SG file in the program BB, save it on a floppy disk , put that floppy in your keyboard and.....:the result is ZERO : your yamaha does not recognize in THIS WAY that MG or SG style or song
so that means: more study , so let’s us start:

from BB midi-file to 9000pro midi-file [song]
select a MG or SG file from BB , save it as MIDI [ buttom in the program] and after that on a floppy disk
there are two possibilities : as mid : type 1 [ different channels] or as mid: type 0 [ one channel]
in both situations the extension changes from MG or SG into MID
put that floppy in your keyboard , press SONG PLAYER /SONG FILE DIRECTORY 1 / DISK DIRECT and you will see on your screen the midi file .
press the START button and you will hear the midi file .

from 9000pro midi-file [song] to BB file
a 9000 pro song is always a midi file [ extension .MID]
select and save a song from the 9000 pro on a floppy and put that into your pc .
open the program BB and go to :FILE IMPORT CHORDS FROM MIDI FILE , and ....there is your midi song INCLUDING chords ánd a by BB chosen style.
You can print out the chords and notation-sheets ,for the drums , the guitar , piano , melody a.s.o.
Note : I am not really satified about the through BB chosen style from the midi –file .
Mostly it is a style “approximately”

To change a 9000pro style by using the BB program
Select and save a style from the 9000 pro on a floppy disk .
All the styles have the extension of .STY
Put that floppy into your pc and change the extention .STYL into .MID.
Open the program BB and go to MELODY /IMPORT MELODY FROM MIDI FILE
And then you can use all the possibilities of the program BB to change “everything “ of the style .
When you are ready : change the extension of .MID into .STY and you will have a new yamaha style .

To create a 9000pro style by using the BB program.
Take a look at page 138 from the big owner’s manual of thr 9000 pro .
There you will find how you can create a custom style for the 9000 pro by using a pc with BB
Insted of using the long way of using the 9000 pro style creator .

From BB Midi file to 9000pro style .
There are different programs to convert a midi file[ in general] to a style for a keyboard .
Take a look at the reaction of gunnar jonny.in this forum
He mentioned the program EMC.
Are there other programs?
My experience with EMC is the same as when BB choses a style from a midi-file :it is “approximately”or what the spanish people are saying : “MAS O MENOS”.

Please give your comments , will you ?
Is this inventarisation complete ?
Are there somewhere instructions about this subject on the web ?
For we as musicians like to play , but for to “manage”our keyboard and pc we need easy complete instructions for HOW TO DO , is not it ?

Regards from GUILLERMO. .

Nice going Guillermo!

Here is what I might like to do. Open (including chords) a MIDI file (not necessarily from the 9000Pro) in BB. Then extract the chords only--e.g., a rhythm track. Then use the chord progression to drive the 9000 Pro styles for music-minus-one playback, while I play the melody.

Regarding BIAB. We were experimenting last night. Create a Solo Improvisation in BIAB ( Say In Bossa) We did 16 bars. Set 9000 to Midiclock Out and open up Multipad Create. Set Pad Channel Record to Channel 8, this is the default out put for the Solo on BIAB. Start BIAB on PC which will start the 9000 recording for the 16 bars into the selected pad. You now have a nice 16 bar Solo Improvisation by pressing the appropriate pad button to play along with your live melody.
Remember for playback to set the pad to LOOP & CHORD.

Very interesting!

But I am waiting for PG music people (BB) to come up with real-time autoaccomp. Then I'll use my arranger just as a MIDI controller.

Try Jammer Live. It's basic, but it does work.
